Sweet Corn HarvestField corn is about half-way through the growing process. Some corn is almost beginning to tassle. This time of year is harvest time for sweet corn. Last year was a tough year for sweet corn in the midwest because of the extreme drought conditions. This year is a much better year.

I am still amazed when I bring up the subject of corn, kids think all corn grown in the field is sweet corn that they eat at the dinner table. Sweet corn represents 1%  of all corn grown in the United States. Field corn is used for animal feed and ethanol production. It is important that people understand where our food comes from and gain an appreciation for the process.

Check out this sweet corn harvest update from a grower in North Carolina and get a sense for what is involved with harvesting sweet corn.
